A New York Icon

“I live in New York City. I could never live anywhere else. The events of September 11 forced me to confront the fact that no matter what, I live here and always will. One of my favorite things about New York is that you can pick up the phone and order anything and someone will deliver it to you. Once I lived for a year in another city, and almost every waking hour of my life was spent going to stores, buying things, loading them into the car, bringing them home, unloading them, and carrying them into the house. How anyone gets anything done in these places is a mystery to me.”
~Nora Ephron, I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman

Nora Ephron died  yesterday, of Leukemia, at the age of 71. She is the icon and inspiration of a New York woman in my head- smart, funny, honest and successful.  Even though I never knew her, I will miss her.
You've Got Mail is a particularly special movie to me. I live on the Upper West Side, the section of the city that acts as the set of the film and in a way, a character itself.  My last apartment was down the block from the iconic cafĂ© where Meg Ryan's character thinks she is being stood up.  I thought of the movie every day, when I walked past it on my way home.  My good friend moved across the country to live on the Upper West Side specifically because of this movie. When people come to visit her it town, she gives them a You've Got Mail tour pointing out all the sites.  Another friend knew she had a keeper when she met her now-husband, who named You've Got Mail as his favorite film.

In her book I Remember Nothing, about aging she put together this list, and It sums up her work so very well…

Sharing is Caring

My friend Meg emailed me a few weeks ago, asking if I wanted to give any art to a silent auction to benefit cancer research.  I was really excited she thought of me, and also thrilled that I had a piece that fit the theme of the event- Pink & Teal.  SHARE is an organization made of of breast and ovarian cancer survivors that offers support for people going through cancer, as well as their friends and families. The event last night was their annual Pink and Teal fundraiser.  I stopped by for a bit to check it out.  The event space was filled with supporters of the cause, dining on h'orderves with a side of pink and teal cupcakes, while bidding on art.  It was really nice to see my piece up there. I don't know how much it went for yet in the auction,  but I'm grateful to be able to participate in anyway possible!
Here are a few instagrams from the fundraiser:

To learn more about SHARE visit http://www.sharecancersupport.org/
*I had originally made this piece a few years ago during a collage class I took at The School Of Visual Arts.  The assignment had been to make a collage of something in nature, using painted papers.

A Wild Tale

I think it's safe to say, Margot's got her groove back!  Otherwise known as, I'm back to regular blogging! WOHOO!

So I love to read, but most of the time I actually audiobook.  I'm on the computer 99% of the time for my job and side jobs and for fun, so audio is the perfect way to keep me focused.
Right now I'm listening to Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
I must admit, I am only reading this because Oprah suggested it.
Some of you are probably cringing right now, and some are cheering BUT either way, it's the truth!
Hiking is, um, NOT my thing so a book about it wouldn't naturally get my attention….but anything Oprah suggests does!!!!
So with about 2 hours left of the 13+ hour tale, I can honestly say I LOVE THIS BOOK.
It's inspiring, interesting and really well written. I'm not about to go hike the Pacific Coast Trail myself anytime soon, but I might consider a long walk down Riverside Drive.
I will definitely be looking out for more from this author.

Picture Perfect!

A little over a week ago Tristan & I met with our wedding photographer for an engagement photoshoot.  I obsessed for a few weeks over MY VISION and I have to say, my fiance is one good sport!!! Jimmy, our photographer, sent us a preview of the images he took and I couldn't be happier with them. I think they capture Tristan & me really really well and most of all, I don't think they are cheesy. I am allergic to cheese….literally and figuratively.

Here is an inspiration board I put together for the photoshoot:
*1*2*3*4*5*6*

We had planned on going to brooklyn to get some amazing city views, but decided on our roof about a week before. We hang out on our roof whenever possible, and we knew I would be able to create a set up there.  I also knew that if we shot near our apartment, I would be able to have outfit changes. Clearly, this is very important business.

And here are a few photos:

(more to come!!)

Important things:
*Visit Jimmy's photography website HERE! Jimmy is from Kate Connolly Photography/ Off Beat Productions!
*Tristan gifted me the yellow #wedo sign from iTagStudios. After my Wendy show appearance, we became in touch over twitter, so #wedo, #iloveyou, & # any sentiment really is special to us. The day I moved in with Tristan he got me the hello sign that now hangs on our door from the same shop.  He's one thoughtful fella! :-)
*My dress is from Lulu's. I actually found it on Pinterest, fell in love and bought it about 2 days later.  It was my first order from Lulu's and I can definitely confirm I am a fan!
*Frye boots are a gift from my momager
*Cowboy boots are Jeffrey Campbell
*My green shirt is DKNY and jeans are DL 1961
*The picnic basket was part of a thoughtful picnic themed engagement gift from our friends Nikki & Mark
*Yellow plates are Fiestaware, gifted off our wedding registry from my parents
*Lavender is from the Union Sq Farmer's Market
*The "Forever" silver letters are Wendy Addison for Tinsel Trading
*Tristan's tie is Tommy Hilfiger. It was one of his gift a day's he's getting for June in honor of his 30th birthday (June 25th!)
*Steps are on 100th street between Riverside Blvd and Riverside park
*Greenery shots are on the border of Riverside Park

making it personal....

I've gotten T-O-N-S of wedding advice in the past few months (ACTUALLY, to be honest people start giving it the SECOND you are engaged whether you want it or not LOL!!!!) but one of the best pieces advice is do everything you can to make the big day personal.
With that in mind, Etsy is seriously THE BEST! We have found so many gems during this process that will make their way to our ceremony and reception, and I'll be sharing them all after the wedding.
Until then, I put together a few items that have found their way onto my Etsy Favorite List recently!

More Love Letters

Yesterday, my pal Alex (aka photo-friend-alex) invited me to a Love Letter NYC Party! Not knowing anything about it, and loving paper as much as I do, I was intrigued.
It turns out The World Needs More Love Letters is a really great organization founded by Hannah Brencher. Hannah overcame a bout with depression by writing love letters to strangers.  Realizing this activity helped her, she knew it could also help others…and it has!

With a twist of irony, this has grown greatly due to social media and yet it brings back the art form of a hand-written note. We participated yesterday with paper donated by Crane  (I love Crane!) at their NYC event. You can read more about the organization and how to get involved HERE

a life update!!!!

I've been the very lazy blogger. Buuuuut, cest la vie! Sometimes this happens and life gets busy the way life does and then here we are. I do do do have some exciting things to share…(in no particular order)

#1- I have a fiance who knows to search my Pinterest boards for things I would like as gifts….so I am now the proud owner of the world's prettiest iphone case. You can get it HERE! Thank's Tristan! :-)

#2- Tristan is turning 30 at the end of this month. He requested (jokiningly…kinda haha) that June be all about him and sooooo, I'm making it happen! I'm surprising him with a gift a day until the big day. Check out DAY 1's gift- custom cookies made to look like my grandpa's taxi that we were engaged in. I ordered the cookies from Sugar Lane Bake Shop and can only said great things about my experience! I highly recommend the excellent service and beautiful quality. I can't wait to order more from them in the future.

#3- I received and amazingly sweet birthday package and inside of it was Purpledoodles, a book by one of my favorite people in the world, Victoria Kann!! It will be available on June 12. I opened it to find IT IS DEDICATED TO ME….To say I'm excited about this is the biggest understatement ever…I AM OVER THE MOON WITH EXCITEMENT….OMGAWDALICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait for it to come out and buy a copy for everyone I know. Best of all it's a book to inspire creativity, and I am so honored she would think of me. Thanks, Victoria!!!!
#4- Crafting. I am referring to a section of our apartment as wedding headquarters at the moment. I can't show much of anything yet...but I am loving using some of my grandmother's supplies. Those were her handkerchiefs.
#5- Devin & Logan got marrrrrrrried! Congrats to my soon-to-be sis-and-bro-in-law! They were married a little over a week ago, in Westchester at a beautiful castle.
#6- Ashley & Ken are having a babbbbbby! I've posted about this before, but took some more pictures of my other soon to be my soon-to-be sis-and-bro-in-law! They're due the end of July.
#7- Taylor is coming to visit this weekend! I can't wait. Looking forward to manicures, lifetime tv, shopping and frozen yogurt with one of my besties that I never get to see…and she's going to kill me buuuuttt- I'm outting your blog!!! You can find it HERE!!!!!! ;-)

That is all for now….that was a mouthful! Or, well, a typeful!!
