Maurice Sendak On The State of Children's Books...

"You cannot write for children They're much too complicated. You can only write books that are of interest to them."- Maurice Sendak

A funny clip in honor of the late Maurice Sendak. He was children's book royalty and I have no doubt my future kids will love his books as much as I did...
I was an illustration major in college, and am currently an aspiring children's book writer and illustrator.  I have a book out there in the universe that I am eagerly awaiting news on (fingers crossed!!!)
I have so much respect for those that are able to live out this dream and make a career of it. I know that one day I will, and it's artists like Maurice Sendak that keep me continuously inspired. The fact that he is a household name is amazing, and I know he will be sorely missed.

Also, it is National Children's Book Week!  So if you're a parent, or a children's book enthusiast maybe tonight's read should be Where The Wild Things Are in Sendak's honor!

If you are looking for ways to celebrate Children's Book Week I highly highly highly recommend the Pinkalicious series, by Victoria Kann.  Her illustrations are gorgeous, her stories are adorable, and she's amazing!  You can learn more about the series here: thinkpinkalicious.com/

Something…GREEN!

This blog has been oh-so-quiet lately. I've been busy busy, between work and wedding planning and life and such! I'm dying to share some wedding things here…….butttt, need to keep it all a surprise till October 6. In the meantime, I snapped these pics yesterday after setting up our succulent window sill garden. I've been talking about doing this (um, like for months hahaha) and finally after a quick stop in the flower district after work put this together. Here are some photos….more to come as it continues to grow!
