this was for a baby color book. thought it fits the "blue" theme this week quite well so i would post it! i really like illustration friday. next week my goal is to create new art for illustration friday instead of posting something i've already done.
that is, unless i become so busy because a children's book contract comes my way. hehe, wishful thinking!!!

it's funny to me that film negatives are called negatives when, in my opinion, finding a stack of negatives is among the world's most positive things. i was at my parent's house this past weekend and came across my mother's negatives from her photography era and a pint-sized version of myself was the subject of choice. here's a scan of one of the lot i found. i am going to start incorporating them into my collages. my mother was just a little older than i am now when she had me, and i figure if i start using her work in my work then the pieces will be a 24 year long collaboration.
i've been collage-journaling for years, but ever since becoming a reader of anahata katkin's blog i've started doing it much more frequently. here's a scan of 2 pages i recently journaled. i don't call my journals "journals" incase you were wondering. they are "beauty books" to me because mary karr, my all time favorite author, was at one time my teacher. day one of class she handed out marble notebooks and assigned us to write phrases and words and poems and thoughts and inspirations. since i'm a visual writer of sorts i really took to this assignment- and 5 years later i'm still journaling 99% of the time out of a marble-beauty-notebook. thanks mary karr!

is an amazing movie....go see it!
*** my editor thinks i should mention why i have a man's shoes in my collage. while sitting in the theater- about 5 minutes to the end- this older man just decides it's over. the funny part was that he walks totally backwards through the aisle out of the door. it was just about as surreal as the movie itself. so now, when i see "across the universe" commercials i picture people walking backwards. and you should too.

well, today my good friend/roommate melissa pastore and i stumbled upon an UWS hidden gem. ROBOT VILLAGE. all i can say is please go to their site-www.robotvillage.com and i highly recommend them for all your roboting needs.
I would also like to announce that melissa is the new editorial director of this blog, and we are excited to have her on board. & by we, i mean me as i am the only one who writes here, and it is possible that she is currently the only one reading it.
I’m quite excited about this- page 18 of the September/October issue of Layers Magazine features me!!! I do feel the need to mention that they took my favorite line out of my bio, BUT good thing I have a blog because I can post it here:
“She credits her growing illustration career on a combination of support from friends and family, dark chocolate M&Ms, Diet Lemon Snapple, passion, dedication & her scanner.”
My scanner is heartbroken that it’s shout-out didn’t make it to print.
Anyway, strolling around Barnes and Noble and seeing your art in print is quite possibly the most exciting thing in the world.
